Mom

Sick.

I was sick.

The first time since moving away from my Home.

“Mom,

can I get water?”

“Mom,

where is my medicine?”

“Mom?”

Of course, mom wasn’t there.

I was in a dorm across the ocean from my Home.

“Mom,

I wanna go home.”

“Mom,

I need you to take care of me.”

“Mom?”

I could barely move.

I couldn’t eat.

I needed help from my mom.

But she was too far.

And I was now in college.

“Honey,

you have to take care of yourself now.”

With every spark of small energy.

Running to the kitchen to make porridge.

Writing papers for tomorrow’s class.

Hand washing dirty, sick laundry.

“Mom,

I don’t know how you’re always so strong.”

“Mom,

your support means much more to me than ever.

“Mom,

Thank You.”
