Mom

It must be hard for you in the spotlight,

The ever standing center of attention even if you swear you aren’t trying.

You have no idea how many times I haven't wanted to wake up in the morning and when I do, I put on a smile and make a few jokes and keep doing everything a good daughter is supposed to do.

More than any child should, I feel the weight of boulders pushing me down,

assisted by the cinder blocks tied to my ankles by the part of me that needs to take care of everyone else.

I’m trapped in the center of a universe that’s crumbling,

Catching pieces in my hands and hoping that maybe if I hold them tight enough they’ll find the ones they're supposed to be connected to, to help establish the stability I've been begging for.
