Mom

The love of a mother, a kiss on your cheek, the warmth of your hug, I always shall seek. The space in my heart, I wish you would fill, without you here, I don't know how to deal. A phone call away, never a reply, "I'm stronger than this," as tears fall from my eyes. You say I don't call, you say I don't care, you pushed me away, this is so unfair. Being seventeen, without my mom here, how long has it been? Almost a full year. A plane ride too far, the funds just aren't there, you say you miss me, but do you really care? The struggles I face, all because of you, you'll never understand, what I have been through. You're there one day, the next you're gone, "I'll see you soon" but "soon" is too long. In June I'll walk the stage, and receive my diploma, I'll be in Rhode Island, you'll still be in Florida. The promise is empty, you say "I'll keep my word" I'm smarter than this, the same thing as before. I try at something, that never will give back, am I wasting my time? This doesn't seem right. Beginning with birth, all through my life, what can I do, to change your mind? See now mom, I've tried too hard, you crave her love, while I love from a far. I'm moving on, you should do the same, I was the sunshine when you wanted rain. I'll give you an umbrella, to shelter yourself, you need the space, for me, for your health. I'm sorry mom, that I'm not number one, and you'll understand when I am gone. I'll be here waiting, by the phone for your call, but until that day, I must say "so long."
