Mom, Dad, Goodbye...

Dear Mom and Dad,

Remember the time I was born? Mom gazed into my eyes as she thought, "She's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen." Dad held me in his arms, crying softly as he caressed the face of his firstborn child. The pain of losing the first, your rainbow daughter, Angela- your angel in the skies, was seemingly, momentarily, forgotten. In this one moment of effervescene, all you could think of was this beautiful baby, the one Mom so arduously delivered, and I-I was so wanted.

But babies grow up. Your baby grew up.

She was stubborn, and angsty, and childish. She had a thing for boys, and an everlasting enchantment with the dark, the eerie things no one else seemed to understand. It was all too fascinating to her, but you didn't understand.

She would seek solace in the night, lose herself in the dreariness. As she'd lay awake at 3 am, she couldn't help but think about the solemn in Mom's eyes and the exasperation in Dad's. She knew their love ran it's course- it was painfully obvious. She falls deep within herself, deeper and deeper, until she becomes the very darkness she admired. Numbness surrounds her bones, her skin, until a sliver of scarlet runs deep down her veins and then- she can feel again. A quiet washes over her. Silent, salty tears trickle down. A new day.

"Pray! Just pray! It'll all go away!" you'd shout, only for the words to fall on deaf ears. She'd invited you into her darkness, she gave you a glance into the world she'd found herself- like Alice who fell down the rabbit hole. She delved deeper and deeper, until she became a demon of the night. The dark faeries gave her wings, so she flew. She flew far away, to the first sign of light. She reached out her hand- to Mom to Dad, but they looked back.

"You've changed, you're no longer our daughter," they said, but she just grew wings. She only grew wings.

That was the last I heard from you. Know I'm still your daughter. I only grew wings, I only grew wings.

Love,

Your Daughter
