Mom, I'm Going To College

His high school career concludes itself, Quite the load he is hauling. He goes to school and silences his phone, But college apps, they are calling. He must divvy out those that catch his interest, Major, Location, Whatever it may be... He feels comfortable about his selection, But oh dear! The application fees. He works to accumulate the necessary finances, His SAT scores; they are known, He is about ready to submit his applications, But a weak essay, he will not condone. He writes, edits, and gets them proofread; Determined to turn in his finest work, He finally has every piece of documentation, Except a letter of recommendation that mustn't lurk. He approaches his counselor and teachers, Inquires about an optimistic wish, And glory to his appeasement, They blessed his hungry soul with a knish. He has galvanized everything together now, He's finally ready to submit, Whether it's the post office or the common app, His anxiety has now become legit. He waits in patience and optimism, Two months, Four months, Six... The apprehensive stress weighs him down, But due February, he'll be relieved of those bricks. At last he receives a phone call! "Congratulations to you", it says, He is victorious towards one of his choices, He has the swagger of Hernando Cortez. As the months progress throughout, He has several acceptances, and a few denials He knows, "you win some, and you lose some" So he accepts his fate, and smiles. Now the commitment date is approaching He narrows what he favors, and can afford, Although his choices are looking very preferable They must appease his financial accord. The date of May 1st comes around, To his diligence and support he will acknowledge, But before he may celebrate his commitment, He looks up to heaven, gathers his prayers, and says, "Mom, I'm going to College."
