Moment of Solace

She

Awakens with the sun,

Eyes bleary.

Four hours...

Her mind

lingers on these words as her body

lies in a heap.

Four hours

since her mind had finally shut down,

after the drag of the day.

Four hours

of the precious stasis that kept her heart

protected.

From the harsh light

of their laughter and sneers,

From the boiling over

of stabbing, chiding

pain.

She scours

the room with her eyes.

Bottles

litter the floor.

Groaning, she fumbles

for the phone beside her.

Faster than light

Facebook greats her eyes.

Her thumb

taps

again and

again.

She stops

to read

the message.

A poem.

Her eyes trail over the words,

her heart fumbles in

her chest.

And just

for

one moment,

She smiles.
