Moments

Moments are rich in life,

Full of joy and strife,

In one I was baptized in understanding,

That childhood would become demanding.

In one particular moment,

The end became an opponent,

A child born with the weight of death,

Deformed lungs soon failing the test.

In that time I recognized,

Life is painful,

Death is certain,

And that time must be optimized.

There was hardship there,

In that stuffy church,

Naivete evaporating into air,

Adulthood above me and perched.

I wish I could tell 12 year old me,

That life would get tougher,

It will be hard to become free,

But first you will have to suffer.

Moments are made in places in time,

They shape who we are,

Without reason or rhyme,

And leaves several scars.
