Momma, I Grew Up

Dear Mom,

It's been six years since we last saw each other.

I hope you're still proud of me,

My grades aren’t great but I am the good person you taught me to be.

Dear Mom,

I've changed so much and I look like you now more than ever.

I hope you don’t care but I have your dimples,

Dad tells me my eyes shine bright like yours.

Dear Mom,

When I left, I lost my best friend.

I miss your voice and the strength of your hugs,

Thank you for giving me a heart as soft as yours.

Dear Mom,

Your baby girl is graduating soon.

I hope you come to see me walk across the stage,

I'll be looking for you in the crowd but I know you won't be there.

Dear Mom,

I have so much to tell you about.

I hope you don't mind if I ramble,

I fell in love and got a job, I held myself up when you weren't there.

Dear Mom,

Since I last saw you, I have become so strong.

I hope you're not still mad at me,

I've loved and lost and came close to death, but I'm still standing here. 

Dear Mom, 

Thank you for teaching me how to love.

I hope I can be as good of a mother as you,

You were my world and my first love, thank you for bringing me to life.

Dear Mom, 

Life is getting harder now,

I hope I can make it through,

I’ve lost more than I can give and I don’t know how much more I can take.

Dear Mom,

Please don’t be mad at me if I can’t stay on this Earth.

I hope you will forgive me when the day comes,

If I do not say goodbye first.
