mommas only son

He was yet a boy but ready in his mind to be a man knowing one day he'd serve a higher calling in a far away land Laboring in the yard in the hot days sun sweat bedding from his face reaching in his pocket to dry the beads rolling down from his head One day he'd do the same but only ducking and dodging the lead wizing by his head He was his mommas heart Her only son With body armor on his chest In his hands his trusty gun Destined to do what many won't Ready to answer his nations call Ready to rise up even if it meant taking the ultimate fall To lay down his life for his brothers in arms To make his family to make his momma proud With his camo stretched down his arms The flag worn upon his sleeve screaming red white and blue out loud I'm my momma' s only son but I was born a man despite my past or how I came to be To serve my country there s no other way to be free When it's all said and done and my time in the army has come to an end I will have my wife my kids and my first best friend I will hold my head high proud of all I have done But one thing will always remain the same I'm forever my mommas only son
