Mom's Soup

i do not know much.

facts, dates, mix and turn in my head

like my mom’s soup on a 45 degree florida evening.

but what i do know,

i’ve looked the world in the eye,

but it gave me bruises and wounds.

did i stare too long?

gaze too close to the center?

all i know is

my wounds are still fresh,

but i’m still standing

world beneath me and all.
