The Monarch Butterfly

Blinded by the darkness of my own cocoon,

the shades of immaturity and impulsiveness cloud my mind.

Unable to see past the shell of adolescent struggles,

each decision threw me deeper into my own cascade of defeat.

Just as the warmth of the cloak created a facade of comfort,

the light of my future and adulthood peaked threw the shell.

The wings I never knew I had spread from beneath me,

carrying me thru the winds of life.

An unavoidable yet welcomed change made me into the woman I am today,

the monarch butterfly.
