Money Hungry

Location

I’m told to stay in school,

focus on my school work

and stay out of trouble

because the world is full of money hungries

I’m told to get good grades

and not worry about the boys who call my name

or the girls whispering secret nothings just so I will do the same

because the world is full of money hungries

I’m told to graduate with my class,

spend summer days working that minimum wage,

while you work from the crack of dawn til the sun turns into a purplish haze

because the world is full of money hungries

I’m told to get that acceptance letter,

go off to college and study hard,

for soon the bills will pile up and not much can be saved

because the world is full of money hungries

I do all that I am told to do,

but the need for higher learning costs

I shouldn’t have to worry about learning how to pay for a piece of paper that will get me a job,

not just any job, a job that determines my life,

but don’t worry mom I promise I will continue to do what I was told

because now, I am money hungry
