Monotony

Lately, I have been in a state of dreadful monotony.

I feel neither joy nor sorrow.

My emotions are a canvas of muddled gray,

a miserable gray that I cannot bring into focus.

If I were to grieve, I would not be lacking.

For I would rather have my canvas filled with The Scream,

with sorrow and grief,

than to have to endure the emotional doldrums

my poor soul has been fitfully sailing on for far too long.
