Monster I've Become

People say the road to Hell is paved with good intentions

Well, I can certainly agree with them on that account

The thing is, I'm not in Hell yet, I'm very much alive

But I've found that I've become everyone else's Hell.

It was the knight in shining armor I wanted to be

Sweeping in to the rescue for any endangered citizen

Or maybe a beautiful distressed damsel stuck in a high tower

And for a time, I thought I was the hero in those storybooks.

Only now, as those I love flee for cover do I realize

That I'm the dragon, I'm the monster

I'm the one that holds the damsel captive

The one that the knight comes to slay.
