Monsters
Monsters.
When we were little, monsters existed under our beds.
In our closets.
In our basements.
In the dark.
In the unknown areas of the world.
In the most horrible stretches of our collective imagination.
When we grew up we learned the truth.
Monsters only existed in our imagination.
Fed by fear.
Sustaining in our youth.
Dying in our age.
And as we grow wise we learn the true horror.
Monsters have always been there.
Monsters are always there.
Monsters will always be there.
At every time in life.
In the bitter deepest dark imaginable.
Waiting ever so patiently to strike.
And when they emerge nobody is safe.
You can hide.
You can run.
You can try to fight.
But you will never escape them forever.
There comes a day when you look at their shelter.
And despair fills you, when you realize where they are.
The place they have always been.
The Mirror.
