Monsters

It is dark in my room

I hide under my blanket

I'm patiently waiting for the monsters to take it

I am curled in a ball

and huddled up next to a wall

if the monsters decide to strike

I shrink down enough so I won't be in sight

I call for my mom

but don't get an answer

I yell at my brother Tom

and again I'm left unanswered

I start to think that the monsters have taken them

I need to get up

I need to save them

I reach for the flashlight next to my bed

and the dim light shows what lies ahead

I walk into my mother's room prepared for a fight

and I find my brother tom curled up in her bed

his head on her shoulder

and her hand on his head

I sigh with relief that they are safe in bed

and overall happy that I conquered the monsters in my head
