Moonstone

Dear everyone,

Being a woman

I was born into this world with a vagina and for some reason this body part determines my equality

Equality… Growing up I was always told I could be anything I wanted to be, but when I said I wanted to be a fireman I was shut down because I was told I wasn't strong enough

Enough… I was raised in a society where my purpose is to please other people rather than finding the strength to please myself

Myself… My feelings seem more insignificant because I am a woman and my anger and sadness is constantly blamed on the blood exiting body

Body… in middle school I spent classes in detention because my shoulders were too distracting to the men whose education was more important than mine

Mine… living in a society where my body is seen as a Saturday night toy rather than a lifetime home.

Home… I take one step out of my house to walk my dog at night and my body fills with the fear of a predator about to attack. No one is around but yet I still feel like prey

Listen to me...Every time no exits my mouth the word seems to linger in the air and enter your mind as a yes

My words are more significant than you may think.

Millions of women have come before me... fighting deep rooted segregation in the south, fighting to have a say in the nation ruled by men, fighting to be rewarded the gift that a man is provided for the same work, fighting for the education that our opposite sex is so rightfully guaranteed the day of their birth

I was born into this world with vagina

No ounce of self consciousness in my body

I know my femininity is my greatest power

I am a woman

We have all been pushed but we have never fallen
