More Than Fire
The word love is defined as affection
As a feeling of passion and fire
A burning fueled by curves
But fire is easily extinguished
And that love is often fleeting
The love I know is strong as stone,
As mountains towering high
Steadily it perseveres
Reaching to the sky
Constant and cool
Warm, and hot
Forever
It's in my mother's exasperation
When I ignore the words she speaks
It's in the forgiveness in her eyes
When I forgiveness seek
It's my father's laugh
When he wakes us up to
Pull weeds and clean
It's in my brother's anger
That I'm often gone
And his desire to be with me
To go on adventures, to cry songs at the top of our lungs with the windows down
Love's in the questions that he asks
Again and again
In the borrowing of my shoes
Love is not a summer
Love is not a song
Love is a lifetime of holding on
Of pulling up and being pulled
Because I love,
I forget myself
Because I love
I ache for you
For your sorrow and your pain
But I know that pain is gain, so
I'll let you run your race
But I will run right by your side and
Help you keep your pace
