More Than Just Blood
We gather not just once a year,
But anytime that love draws near.
Aunties laugh, and cousins cheer,
Their voices soft, their presence dear.
A grandma’s hands so warm and wise,
Tell stories seen through aged eyes.
An uncle’s jokes, a cousin’s hug,
Make sadness shrink, and hearts feel snug.
Though scattered across town or sea,
Our bond remains—strong as can be.
Extended family, near or far,
Are part of who we truly are.
They show up when we least expect,
With hands to help and deep respect.
They offer care, they lend their ear,
They calm our doubt, erase our fear.
Not just through birth, but choice and grace,
They hold a dear and lasting place.
And in each moment that we share,
Their love surrounds us everywhere.
