"More Than Just Words"

Poetry is a language all its own,

a refuge, a safe haven, a beautifully rhythmic home.

Poetry is a power, a force beyond ourselves,

giving us the ability to reach out to someone else.

Poetry is an imaginative paintbrush

when the world’s colors seem ordinary and mundane.

Poetry is an outlet for those who don’t feel good enough,

a reminder that we won’t always wear these self-inflicted stains.

Poetry is free of judgment, free of rules or demands.

We write because we want to.

We write because we can.

Poetry is forgiving; if you don’t like a line then it can be erased.

Poetry is personal expression; revealing the emotions that we hide from our face.

Poetry is you. Poetry is us. Poetry is me.

Poetry is who we were, who we are, and who we want to be.

We write to be free.

We write to take off these masks, open our eyes, and truly see.

Sometimes a little fiction paints a clearer reality.

Thank you so much! The last line should be centered, though. Haha (:
