More Than My Social Media Status

All I need is a chance,

One opportunity or more

Look past my skin tone, my gender, my wallet,

And see me

I am more than my profile pic and the comments I get

If you do not even give me the time of day,

what will make you stay?

You will not see my personality

Or the laughter I bring

I cannot drag you to give back

To donate time or money or blood

You will miss out on the adventures

Finding free festivals, markets, and food

You won’t get to appreciate my time spent

Won’t taste my stir fry or quesadillas

Maybe I’m not the one needing the chance

Maybe that is all you need

Let yourself take chances,

 and see people for who they are!

People like you and me

I’m not just that girl making funny faces

And you are not just the boy with the long nose

We are people and all we need is a chance!
