More Than One Me

Young woman.

A young woman who is still discovering herself.

A young woman who is still discovering herself in this world.

I am a young woman.

Athlete.

An athlete who is prone to injury.

An athlete who is prone to injury with a passion for volleyball.

An athlete who will push past her downfalls and fight to play her game.

An athlete who will never give up, no matter how much it hurts.

I am an athlete.

Student.

A student who wants to learn for the sake of learning.

A student who wants to learn for the sake of learning in order to make a difference in this world.

A student who wants everyone to have a better education.

A student who will fight to ensure that the unheard and ignored can have an equally great education.

A student who wants education to be as important to everyone else as it is to her.

A student who will fight for education worldwide.

I am a student.

Human being.

A human being who shudders at the horrors of this world.

A human being who shudders at the horrors of this world and wants to make things better.

A human being with sympathy.

A human being with sympathy and motivation.

Motivation to change the terrible ways some people interact.

I am a human being.

Why am I all these things?

Why am I all these things in all these ways?

I am all these things because of how I was raised.

I was raised an only child, born two months early with two holes in my heart.

I was raised to respect my elders and to love, not hate; to treat everyone the way I would like to be treated and to always think about others first.

I was raised to know that I should be extremely grateful for what I have.

I was raised around both poverty and riches.

I knew the good and the bad and I didn’t like that there was such a huge gap between the two.

I felt that I couldn’t always be my full self in each of those settings; I felt I didn’t completely belong in either place because I landed somewhere in the middle.

I was raised to know that family and friends are more important than money and material things.

I was a private school kid, but I never fit those stereotypes, nor did I have any desire to do so.

I hit some speed bumps along the way, as would anyone.

I knew what I had and what I had the potential to have, but somehow the future scared me.

I wasn’t sure how to move forward, or if I should move forward at all.

I thankfully knew, in the back of my mind, that I was worth something somewhere and that I could do amazing things.

I discovered that, with my passion and motivation, I could change the world.

I overcame the difficulties and hardships so that I could make other people’s lives better.

I chose to live for others so that they will not be alone, so that they can live the life that they have always dreamed of.

I was taught to make a difference because I lived with an advantage.

I learned to give what I don’t need because someone else will definitely need it more than me.

I will continue to give to others who are less fortunate because it is the right thing to do.

I want to pursue this passion worldwide, but I need to pursue my education first.

I want to study languages in order to communicate with others in their native languages.

I want to accomplish this so that I can make a difference in their communities, not just mine.

I want to make a difference in this world, but in order to do that, I have to work hard to get to where I need and want to be.

I don’t know where my current road will take me.

I live with goals and I live with unknowns.

I live to find out who I will become.

I live to be.
