More Than One Ought

I always scoff at my idols

They tend to talk like me

"I could never have that affect on people"

"It still surprises me that people like this"

It’s stupid for them, since they are so great

I argue back like an idiot

"You’ve affected me!"

"I love your stuff more and more!"

And yet when it comes to me, I’m dumb enough to doubt.

It’d sure be nice to know, when I’m older and more accomplished, that someone like me argued back at my vampires.

I suppose I’m my own worst enemy, and own best friend when it comes to things like this.

The only edification I demand is my own.

But it falters often.

All’s well for now, since hopefully I’ll have time.
