More than a Score
I am not a test score
I am not a grade
I am so much more than that
Fearfully and wonderfully made
Another hour, another day
Another year shall pass
I’m just another student
And you’re just another class
I walk through the halls
You don’t even know my name
I have a drive to stand out
But to you we’re all the same
A fish will believe it’s stupid
If you judge its ability to climb a tree
I am but one little fish
In a standardizing sea
Restrained to my desk
I’ve got a ball and chain
Writing utensils at the ready
This war is inhumane
Will I ever win
If my ability is determined by a letter?
And I ask myself, when time runs out
Am I getting any better?
Teachers have requirements
And as students, so do we
But the bare minimum doesn’t prepare us
For a university
I’d give a servant’s heart
If you teach me all you know
And forever I’ll be grateful
As I continue to learn and grow
Fearfully and wonderfully made
Nothing less, nothing more
I am not a test grade
I am not a score
