More Than You

Slipping into boredom

is as simple as breathing,

And even my favorite food will

lose its flavor when I have had too much.

Reading in excess

will make my eyes swim,

and the letters no longer make sense,

But I could taste you every day

and it would never be the same.

Watching you would never get boring

because your breaths change like

the wind over water

and your eyelids flicker like lightning.

And your hands speak like rolling thunder

as your face alights with

whatever new object has the honor of your attention.

Your features are fascinating,

like your thoughts,

which swarm the sky

like birds from a disrupted tree.

And your eyes can draw me in

from across the room.

Your embrace feels like home:

safe, secure, and mine.

What do I need?

What more could I need?

Next to your smile and your laugh

and your silly jokes and deep-seated worries--

What else could seem more important?

What else is more vital

than you?
