A Morning Blessing

Some days ago, in Belfast, holding bananas and figs, waiting in line for my cup of coffee, I suddenly froze, then snapped around. An unfamiliar hand touched my shoulder. That's all it took, an unfamiliar hand. Why, I do not know. Maybe Viet Nam. But, it was only an angel, a young mother, a quiet smile in her eye. Only an angel, who just happened then to be passing by. Slow witted as ever, I finally managed to blurt out :"Hey!" before she was gone, slight and fair, her tender touch and quiet smile lingering in the morning air.
