Morning Chores

Wake-up,

Check.

--- Didn’t think I’d get this far.

Wash the sleep off my face,

Check.

--- The mirrors a misogynist.

Walk the dogs,

Check.

--- Freezing in the morning sun.

Work up some breakfast,

Check.

--- Stirring in a dash of doubt.

Wage war with the dishes,

Check.

--- All prevails but crinkled palms.

Wallow in the morning news,

Check.

--- The world is still revolving.

Wander out the front porch door,

Check.

--- It’s suggesting rain and rain.

Warm up the Chevrolet,

Check.

--- The driveways disillusioned.

Wish that work did not exist,

Check.

--- Money makes the mortal man.
