This Morning Feels Like Twilight

This morning feels like twilight

The sun is shining above

But it’s blurrier than I remember

I can’t tell where the sun ends and the sky begins

The heavens are a wash of blues and yellows

Rolling over one another endlessly

I don’t know what it signifies

The land is a mess of traffic lights and roadworks

The land is a tapestry of green and purple,

Rolling hills spread in all directions, arching upwards to the sky

The land is a mosaic of footpaths

A thousand veins that run this way and that,

Winding through the hills

The paths go everywhere and I am at their centre

A crowd of people are being swept up a hill

I am one of them

Their faces are indistinct somehow

Or perhaps mine is

A wind is pushing us along

Does it sting?

Is it a frigid gale at a midnight bus stop,

Tearing through the clothes you hold tight to your body?

Is it a summer breeze?

One that whisks a thousand children’s kites in to the air?

One that awakens the birds,

That drifts through a thousand kitchen windows on a thousand sunny mornings?

I can’t tell

I’m not alone

If we are all alone then we are not alone

I do feel alone sometimes

This morning feels like twilight

There are a thousand eyes watching me but i can not see them

The sky is looking down at me

In anticipation?

In pride?

In disappointment?

I’m not sure which I fear the most
