Morning at the Pond

The door flies open and a small boy appears holding a bucket and covers in smears. He hops down the stairs to a beat like a drummer this is the day it's the first day of summer. He runs to the door and opens it wide he can't wait to examine the wonders outside. He tell his mother he's off to the pond she tells him goodbye with a hug and a yawn. He scurries through grass and by trees wet will dew and soon he sees that the pond is in view. He runs to the bank and kneels down to the water he dips in the bucket and yells out “ I caught her”. He peers in the bucket and discovers there nothing, but this doesn't mean that he won't catch something. He looks at the pond and spots something shiny. It's slimy, it's green, it's cute, and it's tiny. He sneaks around to the spot where it lies and moves the bucket slowly with a gleam in his eyes. He dunks the bucket in the blink of an eye and pulls it back out to examine his prize. The water inside the bucket is deep but two eyes appear and out comes a cheep. He carefully pulls out the small fragile creature and hold it out all joyful and eager. The frog tries to jump, but the boy is to quick he almost falls over and steps on a stick. The boy has to try and tighten his grip for the skin of the frog is slimy and slick. The boy soon sees that the creature is frightened and his grip on the frog is quickly untightened. He sets the frog down and points it toward water it hops away quickly as he tries to spot her. He sees a ripple in sits down with a hunch then hears his mom yelling “come and get lunch!” He runs on home for soup and bread, but doesn't forget his amphibian friend.

I'm a Grad student now studying Biochemistry and Biophysics (not sure how I got there). I guess I've been using this site for nearly 8 years now though sometimes I went years without writing much of anything. I write what I feel and I write what I need to let go of. Sometimes I write about a dream or a nightmare I had, If I can tell the difference. I fell in love for poetry in high school and continued to write in college. I hope to publish a book someday as well (leave a comment if a poem speaks to you). P.S. My Instagram is @CottonCandyPoems
