Mornings

Sitting on the plain porch,

looking out to the ocean

I spot a little bit of light

peeking through the water.

Munching on my eggs and toast,

I watch.

As the sky goes from black,

to yellow,

to pink,

to blue.

My little sister comes out

from inside and asks

“Why are you up so early? Come ba-”

I stop her, “Look,” I point to the sky.

She turns and there she is

mesmerized by the lights

sneakily stealing my toast. She crawls into my lap

and starts to eat.

“What is it?” she asks nibbling on the bread.

“That sis is a sunrise.”
