Mortal Eye

Celestial beings understand me

When you ask me

“Let me see through your eyes”

I will tell you

Before you see through my eyes walk my line

Breathe through my body and understand my mind

Take a tour through my veins; through my flesh

You will understand why life is vain – a frail test

Praise the precious blood; life-giving source of vigor

Shrug off the mental adversity with a cup of liquor

The daily hassles; make the picture in your head real grainy

When you’re a mortal, the path ahead is always shady

Take the next step and fall through a crack

Our future is controlled by another, out of grasp

We live with the fear of being taken out, shaken out –

Poking our heads out of the hole; is it safer now?

We worry plenty.

Any time we’re off our guard we’ll be buried empty.

Fear keeps us alert; our feet on the ground, nice and flat.

Fear usually runs through the fingertips to the spines in the back.

We act and ask questions last,

Don’t let it rack our brains, focus on the task –

We are mortals and we never try to mask the past.

Yes, so you wonder what we “fight” for

What we “die” for

What we “live” for

What we breathe for

Many motives there are, let’s settle the score

I’ll gladly bleed so my seeds can eat

Vengeance and reimbursement in the darkest crevice

I’ll shake their world in two, good riddance

We humans need closure, put up a wanted poster

I want the vigilante dead when midnight speaks

His crimson entrails spilled on the city streets

Take him by the hand and show him the trouble he caused me

Why do we do this?

Maybe because justice lags and the gods couldn’t give a damn

Leave a man to rot in the eternal chasm is the plan

Leave us fester in our own trouble is what the gods surmise

So now you have looked through a mortal’s eyes

But I’m not done

You don’t know what a mortal sees in his dreams

Keep the paradise in better view, but wake to the world ahead of you

Cause every day we pray and kneel

Cause temptations follow prey at our heels

Many motives there are, let’s settle the score

Think about the rules, because you made em’

But what happens when you must choose an ultimatum?

We humans make that choice every wake

What must a man do for His name sake?

The path is real, but it isn’t easy

I have to steal so my daughter gets to see me

I carry steel so my son will never need me

Understand a man if you ever met one

To you we may be only ants on your spectrum

I’ve met my time, next in line

The Grim Reaper holds my sign

I’ve met my time

Keep the lines going

The gods hold my sign

Keep the lives growing

This is why every man cries

Look through a mortal’s eyes

The higher beings, I call to you; hold my sign

Understand the words of a man; not of divine

I’ve met my time, next in line

The Grim Reaper holds my sign

I’ve met my time

Keep the lines going

The gods hold my sign

Keep the lives growing

This is why every man cries

Look through a mortal’s eyes

The higher beings, I call to you, hold my sign

Understand the words of a man, not of divine
