Mortality

I'm a victim of mortality I found out

On a winter day,

Why nobody ever told me I'm not sure,

Signs of aging despair on the face

of the clerk on the corner,

The marigold last year,

Cortizone shoots up my spine,

Taking the place of the thrill on game day

Knots in wood, speaking authenticity,

While in muscle, awkward uselessness,

The abusive man at the bar is mad

At mortality again,

He yells larger than life

But acts much smaller,

Isolated in an unnerving camper,

Mortality digs in deep,

Deep enough for him to shovel,

Do you mind mortality?

Why it's not so clear,

One never ending year
