the most human color

the most human color of green-

being as we're fickle creatures seeking what is deemed clean

green

the color of your potted daylilies i knocked over as i climbed

into the glow

of the highway light

and i glimpsed it like it was reverence.

on the terrace of your apartment

i threw myself off of

last night, it was all

green.

the color of the capsules i let slip into this lonely cup

to let these thoughts take me like the flood

so that the image of eden ran its course,

and i could find you at the end of this biblical metaphor.

but a metaphor never stops.

it just seeks to be human.
