Mother

Mother, I lost my body to some other god last night.

I thought it was something sacred you know

Like the long fingered touch of some ecstatic lover from my dreams.

I thought it was something that was supposed to make my wantonness mean sexiness.

But it was just another god of the media.

Mother, I thought that sexy meant a certain skin tone and a certain waist size,

That to be anything sexy in my mind meant that my thoughts had to turn to cream

To soak my fingers in

And sing, “catch me if you can” phrases to boys

Whose fantasies come from x rated computer screens.

Mother, when did this god take over the mind of the youth?

It is the strongest I have ever seen.

Something has happened to women and men.

Women are the sexy mistresses

All eye lined eyes and “come and get me” lips.

And men are stoic and dominant with tight gripping fists.

It rips and shreds the sacred oath of woman

No matter the race, religion, or sexuality

All lost to genitals and flesh.

It is as if the god of media has taken its final breath

And stole the oxygen of free thought from this generation’s lungs.

It visits me and plans to see me through to my transformation into complacent  bystander.

Watch us all become mute

Us men and women.

All meant to become defined by our genitals.

Mother when will it stop?

Mother it comes so close now

Even to the young ones of our sex.

Beauty has defined us and ate its way into the soul.

What is beautiful anymore if the mind goes to waste?

Mother, mother my eyes are gone.

The world is black and the lights are all drawn.

The peace is etched in some other God’s script

But now I cannot find the way, cannot find this way so non-descript.

                                                (Darkness falls)

Mother, mother I found the answer to my woe,

To my future daughter, though I have no eyes to show,

Your beauty will not define you, only your words will I hear

In this I will find my way, in you I have no fear.
