Mother

Her presence is like a strong upstanding wall

Holding together a room about to fall.

Not afraid to stand alone

Nor afraid is she to roam.

Her knowledge is as vast as the sea.

There is not only one thing she is or wants to be.

She is a valiant bear guarding her young.

She is an everlasting song that is yet to be sung.

Her beauty shines like a twinkling star.

It is always she who raises the bar.

Her perseverance can put anyone to shame.

Her strength to do what is right falls as softly and sweetly as rain.

She will hold you close in a warm embrace.

Steadfast, unmoving, without missing a pace.

Nothing compares to her larger-than-life laugh.

She always points me down the right path.

I suppose this is a form of thank you

One that is long over-due.

I never have said it enough.

Instead, my words have always been too, too rough.

There seems to have been so many days

In which the sun is without its rays.

But like a lighthouse in the dark

To your counsel I should always hark.

No amount of words begin to cover

How there could never be another

That is so incredible or fortified.

Our ties are forever tied.

My heart is filled with overwhelming gratitude,

This is not, nor will it ever be, just a mood.

I love you.

But you always knew.
