Mother

Unrelenting as the constant winds

As forgiving as a rain shower

Spanning ocean to ocean

Once

Twice

One hundred times over

And as honest as a farmer’s harvest

While I may never understand how you do it

I am so glad you do

I never can understand how you put

Up with me

An angsty, angry, selfish

Sixteen year old

You must have known all along that one day

The trade winds would whisk me away

And I would realize how much I need you

I will always cherish

The lessons you taught

Like a baby bird

I leapt from the nest unknowing whether I would fly

But with your faith

I soared
