Mother

Through darkened windows no light shall break

A body restful but still awake

The machines all whir as gizmos bloop

A gasping wind came from within her throat

Too feble to speak but still she'll smile

Letting her birds know she'll stay awhile

She tried it all from her colored ovals to homeopath

And yet life still came to lead the final dance

The battle was hard and raged on for too long

So many were worried but still she stood strong

A mothers true love knows no bounds they will say

But I never understood until I encountered her plague

She would give all she had with every breath that she took

Breathing life into a world that was nothing but a crook

A friend to all and a mother to many

We'd run and we'd play and tell stories a plenty

But like seasons she changed started slipping in winter

As the leaves became crumpled and started to wither

And its funny how spring is considered rebirth

Because on that last march day she left in a hearse
