Mother

Heavy eyed, beat, and defeated
trying to make sleep obsolete

I open my eyes to realize
Sleep swiftly crept in on me
leaving me paralyzed, hypnotized, don’t criticize

I lost the fight to keep my baby in sight
I fell asleep in the middle of feeding my baby his skittle

The whining sound of my  child brings me back from her slumber

Broken, beat, and defeated, I am a fucking disgrace
Shame and remorse all in my face

Back to the wall LORD hear my call
I’m down on the ground hitting pavement
Lift this evil enslavement
LORD cure my ailment
