Mother

When I first looked into your eyes

On the day I breathed in your sweet fragrance

As you held me in your arms

I knew

I knew you would be more than a mother

More than just a friend

More than a phone call

Or a text message

Or a full tank of gas when I was low on money

Or a shoulder to cry on when I got my heart broken for the first time

I knew

I knew you would be an inspiration

A motivation

A salvation

From the horrors of this world

You knew them firsthand

For they had consumed you on their own

Demise

Divorce

Depression

You felt them all

And you survived

And each moment I struggle I remember you

And your strength

And your love for life

And your love for me

And I am reminded

That life is what you make it
