To The Mother That...
To the mother that never cared
about me or my brother.
To the mother that showed no interest in me,
or even her newest lover.
To the mother that never gave me hugs
or bothered to fix me supper.
To the mother that watched me cry
and simply passed me off to some other.
To the mother that never applauded
my exemplary grades.
To the mother that spent all of her money
on better things than me when she got paid.
To the mother that always looked out for her own needs,
while mine were a distant second.
To the mother that would give me no love,
even though I would beckon
To the mother that treated me
as though I was nothing.
I've taken what you've done to me
and turned my life into something.
And all of the bad years
of doing things for myself
made more independent.
I depend on me, and no one else.
So to the mother
that never was a mother,
I thank you for teaching me
that I must take care of others.
