mother dearest

I keep that little secret, buried deep inside my chest that says if things went dark i'd put my life to the test I hate to admit after all the wreckage and the shame I would take a bullet for you if they called your name you walk a path of shadows , a self inflicted high and choose the needle instead of the sunrise and watch the good times pass you by you chased the quick escape over all your little kids But you're my mother and I love you, a dept I can't forget I raised you kids, I was the soft place to land, The one who took the pain I tucked you into bed when the fever made you weak and made you eat and drink on the bad days when you could barely speak I was your shelter in the storm when all you bum boyfriends ran away held you tight until the morning light, until the breaking of day and what do I get for the 14 years I spent standing by? Just once a year calls and the sight of you back as you fly. I guess you thought the bloodline was a bond that couldn't break that the love I had for you was your right to take I never asked for thanks, or a medal for the time But a simple nod of recognition a simple paradigm I see their faces in the pictures growing up fast and tall the little pieces of you that escaped you sudden fall I pureed my heart into their lives where your attention left a void a gentle quite promise that they wouldn't be destroyed you may have chosen the high a twisted way to cope my love is a lifeline a final desperate hope I love you more than you know more than the silence proves more then the empty space that's left every time you move
