Mother Dearest

Dear Mother,

I look in the mirror and I almost see you

I tap the reflection

The water ripples and I am standing

Soaking wet

I only dry my eyes

I look at pictures and I only see you

I smile back at your face

You never stop smiling

You can frown when I talk to you

Don’t wait until I look away

I look in my past and I hardly see you

I dig through memories

I manage to uproot flowers

Only the weeds are left

I plant seeds but it will never rain again
