mother who is not mine

You are my mother

but did not give me life.

It was not easy for me to accept you.

Screaming and fighting every day.

Then one night we sat on the steps outside.

You let me cry and folded me into your arms.

Gently you rocked me with a mothers touch I had not felt in years.

Slowly you began to put together the pieces that had broken long ago.

Now today we are mother and daughter as if I was truly yours.
