A Motherless Daughter's Birthday

I became a motherless daughter twelve days before my tenth birthday

Dad thought it'd be great if he threw a huge party

Family and friends all invited

But to his dismay I hated it

I didn't open one present

Didn't even blow out my candles

No slice of cake for me

Nothing

I was a zombie

Walking around as if nothing was going on

As if no one was even there

I went to my room and sat there until the end

Finally when my house was empty

I went downstairs for that slice of cake
