"A Mother's Prayer"
Oh Lord, You are my shepherd.
I’m told not to want.
But I’m not lying down in green pastures.
I’m not beside still waters.
The world is in turmoil--
That is, my world.
The world of my children.
We have no home,
We have no bed.
I only wish this poverty to end.
Please Lord,
What can I do more?
My husband is now with You,
But that, I guess, is nothing new.
Please! Help me!
My family is in need!
We have no money, we have no food.
I’m rarely in a good mood.
My children suffer, why won’t it stop?
No one sees me, we are merely dots.
My babies cry, but no one hears.
Oh! It is more than I can bear!
You are my only God,
But we are treated like dogs!
Grimy skin and matted hair,
That is now a common affair.
There isn’t much to do
But to hope and pray that You
Will someday deliver us.
Will You ever come?
Please do, before our lives are done!
