Mountain Flower

I told her

You’re a mountain flower

She said, I am?

I said yes, you have

a sweetness about you

She said I do?

I said yes

Then I knelt beside

her bed

so we could see

eye to eye

She looked

conspicuously

at me

tilting her head

ever so gently

I looked at her and said

a mountain flower

blooms

whether someone notices

its beautiful colors

or not

A mountain flower

has a fragrance

that no one ever smells

and yet

the breeze blows

its scent through the hills

joining with various

flowers, trees and aromas  from the surrounding mountainside

creating a bouquet

that delights the senses

Then she looked at me

and said in a whisper

I’m a mountain flower?

I nodded, Yes

Then she smiled in delight

as her dimples danced

across her face like

the golden arch of the sun and I was blinded

Her heart soared

though she struggled

to straighten out pieces

of tissue

on her blanket

that covered her

incapacitated arm

She

was

a mountain flower

And

I was blessed

to have taken time

to notice
