Mourning Bird

You can feel the sorrow in the air

so many lives were cut short on the shores

they lay under the cool green grass row upon row upon row

boys who will never grow old or go home to loved ones left waiting

the crosses glisten like the tears on my cheeks the wind blows softly

ruffling their green blankets i hear the waves crashing on the shore that stole many

and I hear the mourning doves softly cooing their sad sad song

is that the last song the lost ones heard the crying of the mourning bird?
