Moving Forward

I always wanted to be strong enough

To say something like “I’ll protect you”

But in reality, it’s me who has to hear that

When will I be strong enough?

When will I be good enough?

You've made your decisions

They've led us down different paths

You think your actions don’t affect everyone else, but

Surely, somewhere, someone is crying because of you

I loved you

But I never knew how to say it

And before I knew it, you were gone

Heading down a path I couldn't follow

Sometimes you turn back and smile at me

But you never hear me crying out your name

Why can’t I just let you go?

Can I say I’m strong enough to protect someone?

Or will I end up looking like a fool?

I can’t say for sure, but

I know I have to keep moving forward

And someday, surely, things will be okay again

I’ll be able to come home

And I’ll be able to stand on my own

Without looking behind me

I can let the past go and watch it fly away

Like petals in the wind

And I’ll start moving forward once again
