Moving on with Life
The whole idea of it makes me feel
like I’m coming up with something
something greater than our world
or the stars that paint the night canvas with light
a kind of euphoria of the spirit,
an elation of the mind,
that forbids any blemish of pessimism on the optimistic soul
You tell me that the time has come to move on
but you have disregarded
the sense of curiosity at six
and how far a curious mind can carry an imagination at seven
But I can look in retrospect and remember all of those dreams
At eight was an astronaut.
I could travel past the moon
And converse with the stars who were my only friends.
At nine I was an Aztec warrior; at ten I was the President
But now I am watching the palm trees sway peacefully,
reminiscing on the pulchritude of my childhood.
Back then we never had much,
but with my mind I had everything
and now I am transforming
my dreams into reality
all founded upon those of my childhood
This is the beginning of change for good, I say to myself,
because I walked through those dreams in battered, second-hand sneakers.
It is time to meet real stars in my life
time to move on and become an adult
It seems like yesterday I believed the misconception
there was nothing for me but dreaming
If you told me I could I achieve them I would scoff
But now as I encounter adversity in life
I strengthen my soul. I persevere.
