Mr. Anxiety
Breath deeply and count to ten.
Everyday I'm fighting demons you can’t even imagine.
I don’t sleep, I can’t sleep.
It’s always too loud with him around.
He’s never really harmed me,
Rather he makes me suffer even in my dreams.
To wake with a fright is the worst punishment for someone who has yet to sleep.
He doesn’t empty tomorrow of its worries,
only takes away today's strength.
There is no pride with him.
Listening to his loud, louder, loudest words of spite.
Sometimes all I want is peace and quiet,
But he is always there.
Mr. Anxiety knocked on my door.
He built a fire deep within, it smolders unnoticed
For a while at least,
Until something sets it off.
He brings a feeling of wanting to run away and hide,
But I can’t move.
I’m drowning.
I let his words fill my lungs.
I let him win.
I’m trying my best, I promise.
It just doesn't always work.
So please don’t get frustrated with me.
Even though I’m still too afraid to say what I want,
Even though I’m still drowning in his words and mine.
I'm getting better,
I just need you to wait for me.
